Sun Yat-sen University

Friday marked the first time that we left the area around South China Normal University by making our first visit to the other university where we will be working, Sun Yat-sen University.  This university’s main campus, the one where most of our activities will take place, is located in the Haizhu District of Guangzhou and is truly a sight to see.  Although it was raining the day we visited, the campus still made a lasting impression and we are certain to enjoy our time there.

We were greeted warmly by Dr. Yao Xu, Ms. Wenli Gu, and Ms. Ling Ding and they gave us a thorough introduction to our upcoming activities at Sun Yat-sen University.  In addition to supporting Sun Yat-sen with their English language materials, Dr. Xu and her staff at the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange (OICE) have arranged for us to meet with faculty members from roughly a third of the 35 schools that encompass the university (spanning across all four campuses).  We are very excited to have the opportunity to talk with so many different schools and are looking forward to our time at Sun Yat-sen.

After our meeting, Ms. Yang Feng of the OICE gave us a tour of the campus and showed us one of the eight famous sights of Guangzhou, which happened to be a gate of Sun Yat-sen located outside of its northern entrance.  We have already made it a goal to find the remaining seven and we will be sure to post them all on the blog!
